Host A Blood Drive

  1. Get top level support.

  2. Confirm site arrangements and check that the bloodmobile team has access to the building in advance.

  3. Create a blood drive team but appoint blood team members who have the time and desire to participate.

  4. Hold blood team meetings to distribute materials and educate volunteers on the process.

  5. Promote the blood drive using all available vehicles.

  6. Recruit donors on a one-to-one basis so that everyone has been asked.

  7. Provide periodic progress reports to key personnel.

  8. Cater to donor needs. Provide baby-sitters and face-painters to entertain children so parents of young children can donate easily. Offer pick-up and delivery service so the elderly and disabled can participate.

  9. Be creative and wrap your drive around a theme.

  10. Schedule donors for specific appointment times to lower rate of "walk-ins" and "no-shows."

  11. Make your donor count report as accurate as possible. Staffing for your blood drive is based on the number of expected donors.

  12. Send reminder cards or e-mails to scheduled donors or make reminder phone calls.

  13. Always say "thank you".
