About Center East
Center East will replace NYBC’s existing facility with a state-of-the-art, purpose-built center that will serve as the heart of the City’s life science innovation ecosystem and will be a key part of the City’s future pandemic response infrastructure.
NYBC cannot expand its life-saving research and development due to the physical limitations of its current facility, which was originally built in 1930 as a Trade School. The proposed development will enable the Blood Center to continue its life saving work and will help position the City at the forefront of life sciences research, as the Blood Center’s collaborations strengthen the City’s ability to coordinate the resources of local institutions and businesses to respond to health crises.
Center East will transform the site into a vibrant hub for life sciences and a catalyst for biotech, a vertical campus with NYBC as the anchor and other life science research companies including start-ups, graduation companies and mature companies. It will create a collaborative ecosystem that furthers life saving research, drug commercialization and helps fuel economic growth in NYC.
This development is exactly what New York City needs right now. The City has many of the foundational ingredients to become one of the nation’s top life sciences clusters and Center East will be located at the epicenter of NYC’s medical community.
