Recently featured on NBC New York, the New York Blood Center-Be The Match Program coordinated the potential lifesaving marrow donor match for a 28-year-old leukemia patient living in the UK. NYPD Officer and March Cop of the Month Kunal Datta donated the stem cells that resulted in the match that could save a life. Officer Datta serves our communities as an Officer in NYPD's 23rd Precinct in East Harlem and was born and raised in Brooklyn.
Officer Datta's donation highlights how crucial it is to increase the number of bone marrow donors, particularly from donors with diverse ethnic backgrounds. Each day thousands of patients worldwide with sickle cell, leukemia, or other fatal blood diseases search for a lifesaving match.
